Excerpt from the brochure:
We invite you to come to the Ligonier Highland Games this September to be Scottish for a day and experience the Scottish Highlands here in Pennsylvania. You can enjoy the sights and sounds of the Highlands and watch massed pipe bands march on the field and fill the air with the skirl of bagpipes. Witness athletes in amazing skills of strength and tossing cabers the size of telephone poles. See the pageantry of Scottish clans and explore your roots. Watch highland dancing, living history and have the wee lads and lassies take part in miniature games too. Explore the vendor area for exotic goods and listen to poets and singers perform in ancient Gaelic. And watch and hear some of the best Scottish and Celtic musicians perform ancient songs and modern favorites.
The Ligonier Highland Games works to preserve Scottish traditions and provide cultural outreach and scholarships in all aspects of Scottish arts. An all volunteer organization, all of the money raised goes to operating the Games and scholarship programs. We present scholarships for dancing, piping, harping, fiddling and Gaelic language and others through the Clan Donald Educational and Charitable Trust. This year the Highland Games and Clan Donald Trust together will award more than $12000 in scholarships, part of over $250,000 since we began the Games 65 years ago.
